Welcome to my blog!
Gigi Belle Plants is a soil-free, plant-related blog that strives to bring exciting plant content to others! Whether you’re a long time plant enthusiast, or just getting started, my goal is to guide and inspire you about alternative methods of growing houseplants without the use of soil. From topics ranging from semi hydroponics (hydroculture) to different soil-free media and set-ups, plant care, propagating, plant styling & design and more!
A little about my background:
My name is Georgia, also known as Gigi! I am a plant and plant-y interiors enthusiast, currently living in Halifax, NS, Canada.
I was born and raised in the Caribbean, a literal tropical paradise, which is where my love for the outdoors, nature and plants truly began. With my family background rooted strongly in horticulture and agriculture, I grew up with a wonder and excitement for everything botanical in nature.
It wasn’t until living through several Canadian winters and feeling a strong disconnect from my tropical roots, that I truly became a full blown plant-enthusiast. What started as a slow trickle of a acquiring a couple of houseplants here and there, soon became a full out frenzy of trying to bring as much green life and energy into my home as possible.
And yet, while I love everything plants, as my collection grew in size, so did the number of pest and soil issues I was facing. After what felt like a never ending war of battling pests, I was just about ready to throw in the towel. I was one new pest away from giving up on having houseplants in my home altogether. That desperation is what ultimately led me to researching and eventually experimenting with soil-free growing techniques.
Almost a year later and with 99% of my collection currently growing soil free, I’m excited to share this journey with you all. To share my knowledge, advice, tips and tricks, successes and failures and to hopefully provide some inspiration along the way!
Thank you so much for stopping by and happy planting! ?
Disclaimer: Since the majority of this blog is sharing my personal experiences and advice on growing houseplants soil-free, I feel it necessary to state that I do not have a formal education in horticulture or hydroponics. The vast majority of my knowledge has been acquired through a lot of research, experimentation, trial and error, advice exchanged with other enthusiasts and a lot of hands on experience. I am not a horticultural expert. I am more of a self-taught hobbyist/enthusiast with a tremendous passion for continuous learning. The aim of this blog is to bring awareness to, guide and inspire others about using alternative methods for growing houseplants soil-free. Therefore, while this blog is meant to act as a resource and source of inspiration, it is important to understand that the decision to convert – and the vitality of – any plant converted to soil-free using the techniques outlined in this blog, is done at your own risk.
